President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney were deadlocked at 42 percent each?in a new statewide poll conducted by Consensus Communications of Orlando.
The poll also found that the gender gaps that had widened in other polls this year have narrowed, with Romney leading among men 44 percent to 40 percent?and Obama among women 44-40.
?Now that the race is a literal dead heat, Florida voters will have to endure a torrent of political TV ads, while the television stations will be counting their Christmas bonuses early,? said Tre? Evers, president of Consensus Communications.
Very odd things happened among age groups in the poll. Conventional thinking, and previous polling, showed Obama favored more among younger voters and Romney more among older voters. The Consensus poll reversed those finding.
Romney lead among 18-40 year olds 43 percent to 36; and among 41-60 year olds, 43-41; while Obama led?among?voters?61 and older,?49-40.
The survey, taken Sept. 8-11, was? of 606 likely general election voters, with a margin of error of 4 percent.
