Memories are a funny thing. Some are vague recollections which are helped along by family photo albums. Others feel like they?ve been seared into your brain for eternity. I?m lucky to have loads of different memories from my childhood?both good and bad. Among many of the most vivid holidays are those we took as a family in the Blue Mountains. (Can you spot me in the photo above?) We lived in Sydney for a short while through my primary school years and as my Mum used to work in the mountains before I was born, a trip up there was a ?must do? for her. Especially now that she had a family with which to share this special place. She wanted to share her memories with her children and now having just come home from a two week holiday in NSW I have done the same thing. You see there?s a lot to be said for taking a walk down Memory Lane.
I watched my children?s eyes light up as I told them about my memories of walking the wobbly bridge to the first of the Three Sisters. They were intrigued as I described the steep descent to get there and felt my fear as I tentatively grasped for solid ground as I stood a proud conqueror on the other side. They felt my pain as I described the walk to the top as so tediously long and unending. I watched my children relive moments I had lived but through their own eyes. I watched them experience things I had experienced. It was a very special time for me and I can?t wait to hear what sort of memories live on in their minds.
The five of us descended upon my unsuspecting aunt and cousin in Sydney for the first week. (Well they knew we were coming so it wasn?t totally unsuspecting, but nobody really knows what it?s like to have 5 people land on your doorstep until a few hours into it you?re suddenly craving the peace and quiet of your pre-invasion.)
I?m not sure I?d live there but Sydney has got so many great things going for it?

Blue skies, warm days?thawing out!

Luna Park
(that?s a whole other set of memories for me).

Mmmm the views aren?t too bad either?

Of course there?s always Taronga Zoo! The shows are terrific. The views are amaaazing. The layout is sensible and the animals aren?t too bad either

Some animals were so close they were scarey!

Some were more scarey than others?

In honour of Steve Irwin.

Yeeha!

Then Mr & Mrs Hottie went to Luna Park

comforting, is when you?re on a white

Bizarrely, I seem to be completely fine with sickeningly speedy train rides?

? just not heights

Family holidays bring so many things. For one
they bring us closer together. Can you feel the
sisterly love all the way from the Manly Ferry.

They give us shared adventures. Our kids won?t
forget the steps to the Three Sisters in a hurry.
They?re extremely steep and see through!
?

They also get us outdoors.
Checkout the wildlife!

More wildlife ? up close and personal.
Very special visit from 20 or so mums and bubs!
Can you spot the joeys in the pouches?

Family holidays also give us
sentimental folk a couple of wallet shots

And possibly even one for the wall?

And another for the soul. How could
we not feel refreshed after experiencing this?

From lofty heights to the gloomy depths of the Janolan Caves. Another shared experience
from my childhood memories.

There are many ?firsts? on family holidays

And some that we won?t ever repeat?
A very steep, non-seatbelted, heart
racing rail ride down the mountain.

Family holidays are fertile ground for imaginations? Tintin, Snowy and some
bad dude with a pink beanie.

But mostly, family holidays bring back smiles, laughter, fun?

I?m hoping these holidays will prove to be a magnificent landscape of memories as my children one day walk down Memory Lane like me. This is for you my children?
How about you? Where would you like to take your children to share some of your childhood memories?
